Alcohol has become such a normal part of our day to day lives that we often forget what a powerful and addictive drug it is. Our weekend nights of drinking a couple of beers or a few glasses of wine somehow turn into a nightly habit where we feel we need to have a drink to escape the stresses of the day or to boost our confidence when socialising. This one glass of wine somehow turns into a bottle, and a quick beer in the pub after work with friends turns into 3 or 4.
While there is nothing wrong with enjoying an alcoholic drink (or two), many of us feel the excess drinking has just become a bit too much. We feel we have got into bad habits and are uncomfortable with our drinking.
There are many complex reasons why we drink too much including beliefs that
- Alcohol relaxes me at the end of the day
- Alcohol is a reward for getting through the day
- Alcohol helps me to socialise and feel confident
- Alcohol blocks out pain / depression / loss
- Drinking excessively is the norm with friends, so there is pressure for me to do the same.
If you have a relationship with alcohol that you are not entirely happy with, whether you wish to reduce your dependency on alcohol, stop binge drinking, or stop drinking altogether, I can help.
Hypnotherapy works with your unconscious mind to change how you think about alcohol, whilst giving you tools and techniques to use in your daily life to help you achieve your goals.
